I'm an ex-McDonald's chef - I know the secret ingredient in sweet & sour sauce and you can get it at

MCDONALD'S sweet & sour sauce has a cult following, but an ex-chef of the chain has revealed how Americans can make it anywhere.

The former employee has shocked diners by telling them they can get a dupe at the supermarket.

THE SECRET TO MCDONALD'S SWEET & SOUR SAUCE

In a viral video on TikTok, a former McDonald's corporate chef, Mike Haracz, helped anyone who has ever wanted to make the McDonald's sweet & sour sauce at home.

The chef's career expertise makes him the ideal source to replicate the company's iconic foods.

"McDonald's sweet & sour sauce, do you want to buy it from the store?" he begins before disclosing his past ties to the fast food giant.

"This was a little difficult because most Americanized sweet & sour sauces available on retail are flavored with pineapple," he said about finding a dupe.

He noted official documents disclosing ingredients shows McDonald's flavors its sweet & sour sauce with apricot and peach.

"I'm also noting the Sherry [Wine Powder] ingredient as well, giving it a very distinct flavor," he added.

Although he didn't find any identifical products, the chef said he found one brand with a similar taste.

He reckoned it's the closest dupe Americans will find: Ken's Steak House Dressing Sweet and Sour Sauce.

The single-use containers can be bought from Doordash or Instacart for 60 cents a pop and retailers like Target sell full size containers of the sauce for $3.49.

The chef suggested sweet & sour sauce fans can get it to taste more similar to McDonald's by adding a little bit of peach or apricot preserve, as well as a "drop or two" of Sherry Wine.

Considering peach apricot reserve can retail for over $5 and Sherry Wine is at least $15, it might only be financially lucrative if you regulaly enjoy the sauce or want to be able to enjot it sans McDonald's.

ARE YOU PAYING MCDONAL'DS MORE FOR SAUCE?

In other saucy news, another McDonald's worker claimed she knows the real reason the chain charges customers extra for sauce.

Some fast food frequenters might've not realized McDonald's adds a surcharge fee for every sauce they order.

Diners are typically alloted one complimentary packet of sauce per food order.

“For example, getting a four or six-pack nugget, you are allocated one free sauce packet," the worker explained.

"However, at our own discretion, we can give an extra free packet."

Ultimately, McDonald's goal in limiting sauce ordering is to save money.

Not unlike Americans who resolve to make dupes of their favorite foods at home.
